HOW TO MAINTAIN GOOD MENTAL HEALTH

We know that being stuck at home during lockdown can make us all a little stressed or anxious, however it is important to look after yourself & your family that includes their mental, physical and emotional health. We’ve got some tips for you to ensure that both you and the family is on top of your mental health!

GO ON AN INFORMATION DIET

Take a break from watching, reading, or listening to the news stories, including social media. Give yourself a break & go outside or into a different space to get a breath of fresh air. Changing your scenery helps to give your mind that mental break .

PLACE OF WORK & REST SHOULD NOT BE THE SAME 

Separate your work space from your resting or chilling space as this allows for your brain to distinguish from the two. This becomes important when it is time to rest. Your mind knows that it can remove itself from the space of work or stress and relax. The same goes for your working space, if you are constantly in a space where you are resting your brain will not know that it is time to work & focus but you will tend to be a lot more relaxed. So please, don’t work in your bed, that’s your resting space.

 

LEARN SOMETHING NEW

Now’s the time to learn the things you’ve always wanted to do.  Pick up a paintbrush, get baking, try your first yoga pose or finish a puzzle. Do that thing you’ve always wanted to do but never had the chance or time to do it. Remember to include those in the house or family too, it might be a fun new task for everyone to get involved in.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY

Taking care of yourself and your well being is very important during this time. Whether it’s running up and down your balcony or backyard or doing a yoga session – keep moving! Or even if that means having self-care Sunday’s with your favourite face mask, take care of yourselves fam!

STAY CONNECTED!

Make it part of your daily routine to reach out to friends and family. Give them a call, send them a message or video call friends and family. These emotional and meaningful experiences reduce stress & raise those feel-good hormones.

Try to get creative with activities that you can do at home. Check our Kauai’s channel for some inspiration. Do activities that you enjoy & give your body that boost and change of scenery it needs. Bring out your inner child & get creative!
